Love the Pattern, But Not Quite the Colors? Here’s What You Can Do

Seamless pattern customization can help a design you love fit your products—and your brand.
You’ve found a seamless pattern you love. The style feels right, and you can already imagine it in your next collection.
There’s just one problem.
The background is cream, but you need soft white. The flowers are pink, but your collection calls for dusty blue. Or the illustrations are a little too large for the accessories you’re making.
Before you spend hours searching for another design, send me a message. I may be able to adjust the one you already love.
I’m Kate, the artist behind KateSuDesign. I create my patterns in Adobe Illustrator and Procreate, and I keep the original source files for every design. That means I can return to the artwork and explore changes that suit your project.
Seamless Pattern Customization: What Can I Adjust?
Colors and Backgrounds
Sometimes, a different background is all a pattern needs to feel at home in your collection. Other projects call for changes to the flowers, leaves, or smaller details.
Depending on the design, I can:
- Change the background color.
- Recolor individual elements.
- Create a colorway around your brand palette.
- Coordinate colors with your existing products.
You can send me HEX codes, a palette, or reference images to explain what you have in mind. These give me a useful starting point, although printed colors can vary with the material and printing process.
Pattern Scale and Spacing
A floral that looks beautiful on a tote bag might feel too large on a scrunchie. Small details might disappear on a narrow strap or get lost along a seam.
Tell me what you’re making, and I can help you explore a more suitable scale.
Depending on the artwork, I can resize the overall repeat, adjust individual elements, or change the spacing between them. These adjustments can help the design work across different products while keeping your collection cohesive.
Textures and Decorative Details
Perhaps you love the motifs but would prefer a cleaner background, fewer decorative details, or a little more breathing room.
I can sometimes remove elements, simplify the layout, or add subtle texture. The possibilities depend on how the original artwork was created, so I’ll review your chosen design before confirming what I can do.
Why Ask Me to Make the Changes?
When you buy a digital pattern from my shop, you receive a finished file, such as a PNG. I keep the original artwork used to create it.
With those source files, I can work with the original layers or objects instead of trying to isolate details in a flattened image. That gives me more flexibility when adjusting colors, backgrounds, and the arrangement of elements.
You’re also speaking directly with the person who drew the pattern. I know how it was built and can help you work out which changes make sense for your product.
Need Coordinating Patterns, Too?
You might have found the main print for your collection but still need a stripe, dot, or simple geometric to go with it.
I can help you find coordinating designs from my existing artwork and explore color adjustments to bring them together.
Working together over time also means we can build on palettes and design choices we’ve already established for your business. When you’re ready to add another product, we have a starting point for keeping the collection consistent.
How to Request Seamless Pattern Customization
Send me:
- A link to the pattern you like.
- The changes you have in mind.
- Your preferred colors or reference images.
- A little information about the products you’re making.
You don’t need to know the technical terms. “Could these flowers be smaller for a pet bandana?” is a perfectly useful place to start.
Please contact me before purchasing, so we can confirm what’s possible and discuss any additional cost. Simple adjustments and more involved artwork changes can require different amounts of work.
The next time a pattern feels almost perfect, you may not need to start your search again. Let’s see whether a few adjustments can make it work for you.
Explore my patterns on Etsy or send me a message through my website to tell me about your project.
