Commercial Pattern Licensing Shouldn’t Be Complicated

You find a pattern you love. You can already picture it on your products.

Then you reach the licensing information.

Commercial use included… but what does that actually mean?

How many products can you sell? Can your printing partner use the file? What happens if the product sells better than expected? Can you use the design on a printable? Do you need to contact the designer before you start?

Buying a pattern should make creating your next product easier — not give you another set of rules to decode.

Can I use the pattern for my business?

Yes.

Every KateSu Design pattern purchase includes a commercial license for up to 50 finished products per year.

That can include physical products as well as finished digital products — for example, digital greeting cards, printable artwork, quote graphics, or other digital products where the pattern becomes part of the finished design.

The license applies to one design, in one colorway, for one year.

What if I sell more than 50?

That’s a good problem to have.

You simply move to the license tier that matches your annual production.

For 51–1,000 finished products, you can add the $50 Extended Commercial License directly when purchasing the pattern. Larger production quantities have straightforward fixed-price tiers, so you know the cost before committing to a bigger run.

There are no royalties or percentages to calculate.

Can my printer or manufacturer use the file?

Yes.

You can send the design file to a private printer or manufacturer who is producing your products for you.

You are responsible for making sure they keep the artwork private and do not resell, share, reuse, or make the design available to anyone else.

Can I sell fabric or wallpaper with the pattern?

Yes, but this requires a separate Fabric & Wallpaper License.

The license is $150 per year, per design and colorway, and covers selling printed fabric by the yard or wallpaper by the roll.

Do I have to credit KateSu Design?

No.

When you purchase the appropriate commercial license, attribution is not required.

The artwork itself still belongs to KateSu Design, and the license cannot be transferred to another person or business.

The goal: fewer licensing decisions

If you run a small business, you already have enough things to figure out.

My goal is to make licensing predictable: choose the design you want, know exactly what your current production level allows, and upgrade when your business grows.

No royalties. No complicated negotiations. No need to message me every time you sell another product.

Just choose the design, choose the license you need, and get back to making things.
