Will This Seamless Pattern File Work for My Product?
You find a pattern you can already picture on your next product.
Then you check the listing.
PNG. DPI. Pixels. Repeat size.
“Is this the file my printing partner needs? Will it look sharp? Will those flowers be tiny—or take up the whole front of my product?”
You don’t want to buy a file, send it to production, and discover a problem after you’ve paid for printing.
You want to know what you’re getting, whether it fits your project, and what to send your printer.
Here’s what you can expect when buying a seamless pattern from KateSu Design.
What file will I receive?
My standard pattern files are non-editable PNG files, 12 × 12 inches at 300 DPI. That’s 3,600 × 3,600 pixels.
PNG is a raster format, which means the image is made of pixels. Printing the same file at a smaller size keeps it sharp; enlarging it reduces the number of pixels per inch.
If your printer needs a different size or format, ask me before purchasing. I can adjust the size and help you find the right option for your project.

What if my printer asks for a vector file?
I often create my designs in Adobe Illustrator, so some patterns are also available in vector formats.
Artwork made entirely of vector shapes can be enlarged without losing sharpness. If a design is available as a vector SVG, for example, you can scale it up without the pixelation you might get when enlarging a PNG.
Not every pattern is available as a vector. If you need an SVG, an Illustrator file, or another specific format, send me the listing link and your printer’s requirements before you buy.
Will the colors print as they look on my screen?
Colors can look different when printed. My standard files use RGB color.
Your printer may accept RGB or request CMYK, depending on their printing process. Check their requirements before ordering your file.
If you need CMYK, I can prepare that for you—please ask before purchasing, so we can make sure you receive what your printer needs.
If an exact color matters to your product, a printed sample is a useful step before committing to a larger run.
Will the pattern repeat without visible edges?
A seamless pattern is designed so its opposite edges join when the tile repeats.
I check my repeats in Adobe Illustrator. You can also use the repeat tester on my website to see how a pattern tiles for yourself.
Looking at the repeated design helps you picture more than a single square preview: you can see how the motifs flow across a larger area and how the spacing feels.
I use the tester myself, including when creating digital paper.
Will the pattern be the right scale for my product?
The listing preview shows the design clearly so you can see its details, and one of the slides always shows the repeat tile.
A pattern that feels balanced on a tote bag may look very different on a small pouch or a greeting card.
You can print the PNG at a smaller size without losing sharpness. If you need a larger version, check whether the design is available as a vector—or ask me about your project.
I can resize patterns, and I’ll try to accommodate the size you need.
If you love the design but need different colors, I also offer free recoloring when you ask before purchasing.

What if I’m still not sure what to buy?
You don’t need to figure out every technical detail on your own.
Send me the pattern you’re considering, what you want to make, and any file requirements your printer has provided.
If they’ve sent you a list of specifications you don’t quite understand, include that too.
I want the file to work for your project. I’m happy to answer your questions before you purchase.
