Questions Makers and Interior Designers Should Ask Me (But Never Do)
As a surface pattern designer, I love working closely with makers and interior designers to bring their creative visions to life. Over time, I’ve noticed a few questions that would make our collaboration even more mutually beneficial! So, let’s dive into the answers to questions you should ask me.
1. “Do you have/can you make the same design but in green/purple/beige?”
Glad you asked! 🌿 Yes, I can. All of my designs are digital files, which means I can adjust colors and scales to suit your specific needs. Whether you want forest green, sage, or any other shade, it’s usually possible to customize the design.
2. “Can you make it smaller or bigger?”
Absolutely—most of the time! Here’s what you should know:
- Making a design smaller: This is typically easy. The only limitation is that very thin lines or delicate textures might become less noticeable.
- Making a design bigger: Often possible, but there are two challenges:
- Rasters vs. Vectors: If a design was created in raster format (think pixels, like JPEGs and PNGs), enlarging it can cause pixelation (those little rectangles that ruin the quality). Fortunately, most of my designs are in vector format, which means they can scale up or down without losing quality.
- Wallpaper Roll Width: Spoonflower wallpaper rolls are 24 inches wide, and many of my designs are optimized to repeat seamlessly within that width. Making the pattern larger can sometimes require creating murals (a series of non-repeating panels). Murals look amazing but might need extra communication with your buyer or builder to install correctly.
(A diagram here could help visualize the difference between a repeating design and a mural.)

3. “Do you still have it in stock?”
My favorite question! The short answer is no but YES!
I sell my designs through a print-on-demand platform called Spoonflower. This means there’s no ready-to-sell inventory sitting on a shelf. Instead, when you order fabric, wallpaper, or home decor, it’s printed specifically for you.
The upside? There’s no risk of running out!
The downside? Colors might vary slightly between orders. To ensure consistent colors for your project, I recommend ordering everything you need in one batch.
